Hallyu star Bae Yong Joon, who is called Yonsama in Japan, was chosen to receive The Cultural Award at the Cabinet Council meeting on the 14th and the approval of the president remained. His Japanese fans accepted this fact as the accomplished one and they plan to visit Cheongju to watch him receive it. It made the City of Cheongju get busier.
The city wants to use this opportunity to introduce itself well and attract Japanese tourists.
According to the city of Cheongju, BYJ will be acknowledged as the recipient of the Cultural Award after the approval from the President on the 16th and will receive the award at the “2008 The Cultural Day” ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Cheongju Art Center that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism organize on the 18th. Many of Yonsama fans from Japan got this information and plan to visit Cheongju.
L tour company in Seoul, is doing a “Bae Yong Joon Tour” business for his Japanese fans, said, “About 400 of his Japanese fans will visit Korea to watch him receive the award and we have booked 150 rooms for them at Ramada Hotel in Cheongju.”
This tour company prepared the 3D 2N tour schedule for them to stay in Cheongju most of the tour.
They formed itinerary like this: First, they will arrive in Cheongju and stay at the Ramada Hotel on the 17th, visit Sangsoo Herb Land in Cheongjugoon and Cheongnamdae in Cheongwongun on the 18th, visit the Cheongju Art Center that will hold the ceremony in the afternoon on that day, and visit Sangdang Fort in Cheongju on the 19th.
The tour company requested 400 seats out of 1,200 seats of the Cheongju Art Center for the Japanese tourists and they refused politely because it may make this ceremony BYJ’s personal event and the invitations were already sent out.
But, they plan to set up the big screen at the square of the Art Center for live broadcast for Japanese fans.
The city has become motivated and wants to actively step forward and attract BYJ’s Japanese fans as well.
They’re reviewing the tour course plan to use the Sangdang Fort where he filmed, the room he stayed in Ramada Hotel during the filming of TWSSG two years ago, and the seat of Cheongju Art Center that he will sit at the award ceremony.
They think that it’s possible to attract the Japanese fans who were indulged into Yonsama, if scenic Sangsoo Herb Land, water springs in Cheongwon, and Cheongnamdae are included in the tour course.
An officer of the city of Cheongju said, “The ‘passionate’ Japanese fans even go to the pIaces where BYJ passed by. If we could include the pIaces where BYJ stopped by for the tour course, then it could be a great tour package. We want to utilize this plan actively for the source of tourism to attract Japanese tourists.”

2010-2012 declared `Visit Korea` years
Korea yesterday announced the years 2010 to 2012 as the "Visit Korea" campaign period, to prop up efforts to strengthen the nation`s tourism industry. The declaration was made before some 800 participants at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Association and the Visit Korea committee at Lotte Hotel Seoul. The event also commemorated the 35th anniversary of the World Tourism Day that officially fell on Sept. 27.

[Lee Gil-dong/The Korea Herald] The Visit Korea campaign 2010-2012 will be a nationwide project aimed at attracting 10 million tourists and drawing $10 billion in profits annually by year 2012. This is the third installment of the Visit Korea campaign, following the first in 1994 and the second between 2001 and 2002.
During the campaign period, various state-funded and privately-sponsored programs will be implemented, such as on-site promotions at target market regions including Japan, China and Southeast Asian countries. Overseas advertisements will also be enhanced while various hospitality campaigns will be held. The government and each municipality will also overhaul the convenience level for foreign travelers such as signboards on the streets.
"Together with the private sector, we also plan to start the so-called `Korea Grand Sale` program offering discounts in air fare and shopping for travelers," said Kim Hyun-joon of the Culture Ministry`s Tourism Policy Division.
Last year, a total of 6.45 million foreign nationals visited Korea, bringing in $5.8 billion in profits.
Attending the ceremony were Culture Minister Yu In-chon, business dignitaries, celebrities and foreign envoys, among others.
First Lady Kim Yoon-ok, who attended the event as an honorary Visit Korea committee member, said, "Let us put our efforts together to make Korea a country of integrity, passion and hope, a destination where world travelers would want to revisit and stay."
A total of 23 figures were awarded by the government for having contributed to boosting the tourism industry. Another 113 received prizes from the culture minister for their tourism-related activities.
Among the recipients of the government award was the late Kim Chan-sam, a renowned traveler who is said to have pioneered overseas travels by Koreans. He has authored numerous books on overseas traveling. He received the "Moranjang," a decoration of honor.
Actor Ryu Si-won also received a presidential commendation for his work as a spokesperson for Korea`s culture and tourism for three years from 2006.
Actor Bae Yong-joon, who is popular in Japan and other parts of Asia, was appointed as a special ambassador for the Visit Korea campaign for 2010 to 2012.
The tourism business has been faltering recently with a low yearly increase rate of incoming foreign travelers at a mere three to five percent. ,br>

ในช่วงเวลาของการรณรงค์นี้ โครงการที่ได้รับเงินสนับสนุนจากทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชนหลายๆโครงการก็จะถูกนำมาใช้อาทิเช่น การส่งเสริมการขายในสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่มีพื้นที่เป้าหมายทางการตลาดครอบคลุมประเทศญี่ปุ่น จีนและประเทศในแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ จะมีการส่งเสริมการโฆษณาประชาสัมพันธ์ในต่างประเทศ ตลอดจนมีการรณรงค์ความรู้สึกเป็นเจ้าบ้านในหลายๆรูปแบบ รัฐบาลและแต่ละเขตจะต้องมีการปรับปรุงการอำนวยความสะดวกสบายให้แก่นักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติเช่น การจัดทำป้ายประกาศบอกทางตามถนนสายต่างๆ
คิมจุนฮุน จากแผนกนโยบายการท่องเที่ยว กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม กล่าวว่า ด้วยความร่วมมือกับหน่วยงานเอกชน เรายังได้วางแผนที่จะริเริ่มโครงการที่มีชื่อว่า Korean Grand Sale ซึ่งจะให้ส่วนลดค่าเครื่องบินและการช้อปปิ้งแก่นักท่องเที่ยวชาวต่างชาติ
ปีที่แล้วมียอดนักท่องเที่ยวทั้งสิ้น6-45ล้านคนที่เดินทางมาเกาหลีและสามารถนำเงินรายได้เข้าสู่ประเทศได้ถึง5-8พันล้านเหรียญสหรัฐผุ้เข้าร่วมงานในครั้งนี้ได้แก่ นายยูน อิน วอน รัฐมนตรีกระทรวงวัฒนธรรม นักธุรกิจชั้นนำและบุคคลผุ้มีชื่อเสียงตลอดจนทูตจากประเทศต่างๆ
สตรีหมาเลขหนึ่งท่านผู้หญิงคิมยูน อุก ซึ่งเข้าร่วมงานครั้งนี้ในฐานะสมาชิกคระกรรมิการการท่องเที่ยวเกาหลี ได้กล่าวปาฐกกถาไว้ว่า ขอให้เราทุกคนมาพยายามร่วมกันในอันที่จะทำให้ชาติของเราเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน เป็นดินแดนแห่งความรักความเข้าใจ ช่วยกันทำให้ประเทศของเราเป็นดินแดนที่นักท่องเที่ยวทั่วโลกอยากจะเดินทางกลับมาเที่ยวชมเป็นครั้งที่สองและอยากที่จะพักอยู่นานๆ

นักแสดงเรียว ซี วอนก้ได้รับรางวัลจากประธานาธิบดีในฐานะที่เขาทำหน้าที่เป็นโฆษกของกระทรวงท่องเที่ยวและวัฒนธรรมมายาวนานถึงสามปีตั้งแต่ปีสองพันหก
ดาราหนักแสดงหนุ่มเบยงจุน ผู้ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมในญี่ปุ่นและประเทศในแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ก้ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้เป็นทูตพิเศษของโครงการการรณรงค์การท่องเที่ยวเกาหลีตั้งแต่ปี2010-2012
