They don't look like that they are here for business and most of them are middle-aged women, it is really rare! When I was about to leave the shop, I heard a Japanese talking to BYJ:"I am really looking forward to seeing you, may I get your autograph?" Until then, I realized that they all came here for him!

I've thought that BYJ was not in Korea and he always stay overseas, but I didn't expect that he is here in Korea!

We were amazed. BYJ answered the first question of our interview in this way without hesitation. To think that he was such a person to have put so much thought into the first question of what the image of a CEO and a leader should be.

On this day, BYJ had dozens of media requests which he had to carve out minutes for. While we waited by the hotel window, dusk turned into beautiful night scenery. No matter how patient an actor may be, fatigue can result from the parade of media appearing and so we were prepared for at least a bit of ill-humor on his part.

But BYJ, who appeared before us, put aside our rush to start the interview rightaway by asking us if he could greet us as he politely shook every one of our hands. With his friendly smile and his calm manner, the surroundings instantly became harmonious. He is a person who has the amazing ability to instantly lead people according to his pace.

Then the interview began in this way. First, there was the introduction of our company. GQ Japan is a magazine read by businessmen and we told him that the average age of our reader is 35 years old, the same age as BYJ. While hearing our explanation, we heard him say, “hm, hm” in a slightly cute, high pitch voice which was different than the low, soft voice “un~” which we were used to hearing in the dramas and films.

The first question we asked was, after portraying King Damdeok of Goguryeo in TWSSG, what does the study of King Damdeok and modern businessmen have in common? His answer to this question is given at the beginning of this article. Whether he knew what type of reply GQ readers were expecting, it was a clever response made in a moment’s decision. Then he continued in this way.

“A great leader may later have no option, but to discard the small matters. But it is not their intention from the onset to discard those small matters. Though leaders and CEOs may achieve the same results through the decisions they make, I believe that there are differences in their thought processes and the emotions they pursue to reach their decisions.'

But I did not go to the hospital. If I had gone, they would tell me to remain immobilized, to be hospitalized, that I would not be able to film, and that even if was alright, I would have to wear a cast while filming. But I felt I could not devote myself to filming in such a condition and thinking that it was best not knowing the condition of my injuries, I took painkillers, intravenous drips, wrapped four layers of bandages, and continued filming for 10 days in that state…”

He is said to have given himself an IV after numerous pricks of the needle. With so much talk of pain, BYJ exchanged contorted looks with all the members of the staff. Hahaha...

After playing the role of the King for two years, how do you feel now?

“Of course he still remains in my heart, but it would be wrong for me to continually live in the frame of mind as the King (laughs). So I have erased such a feeling. But like Damdeok, I need to live much more earnestly and responsibly, doing good deeds, to show kindness and consideration to others; this was a project that I will treasure in my heart even now.” He replies in a gentle tone of voice.

History portrays Damdeok as a fierce warrior during the glory era of Goguryeo but in the drama, he is portrayed as a person that loved his people. Perhaps BYJ possesses the original qualities of grace and compassion and may have endowed the role of the King with deep love and unshakeable strength.

You put your heart and soul into your work, but isn’t it necessary to take an occasional break?

“I think that taking a break is like a reward for completing your work. Because you have put in this much effort, now you can go and play, you can go and drink alcohol. But there is the opposite also. Because you drank too much alcohol today, for the next two months you will not be allowed to drink alcohol (laughs).”

Have you ever had too much to drink?

“2-3 times a year (laughs)”<br>

มีครับ จริงๆ นะครับ (หัวเราะ) เพราะผมได้กลายเป็นตัวละครตัวนั้นจริงๆ และแสดงเป็นเขานานมากถึง 2 ปี ผมจึงคิดว่า ลักษณะที่สำคัญของผู้นำควรจะเป็น อย่างไรนะ เขากล่าวอย่างถ่อมตน

TWSSG เป็นละครที่ทุ่มทุนสร้างถึง 6.4 ล้านวอน ซึ่งเป็นปรากฏการณ์ ที่ไม่เคยเกิดขึ้นมาก่อนเลยในวงการละครเกาหลี ละครเรื่องนี้เต็มไปด้วยฉากแอ็คชั่นและการได้รับบาดเจ็บก็เป็นไปอย่างต่อเนื่องไม่หยุดยั้ง เขาได้รับบาดเจ็บ ที่นิ้วมือและหัวไหล่ และในช่วงกลางๆ ของการถ่ายทำ ซึ่งเหลือเวลาอีก 2- 3วัน ก่อนจะปิดกล้อง เขายังได้รับบาดเจ็บอย่างแรงที่หัวเข่าด้วย

ในช่วงนั้น คุณกระตุ้นตัวเองให้ทำต่อได้อย่างไร

“ผมต้องทำทุกอย่างไม่ว่าจะเป็นอะไรก็ตาม ที่ทำให้ผมสามรถเดินต่อไปได้ ถ้าผมคิดว่าผมจะไม่ต้องทำมันต่อไป โดยการบอกว่ามันเจ็บได้ละก็ ผมคงพูดไปแล้วครับ (หัวเราะ” )

วินาทีที่ผมได้รับบาดเจ็บ ผมคิดกับตัวเองว่า นี่มันร้ายแรงมากนะ ผมได้ รับความเจ็บปวดจากบาดแผลมากเลย มีบางสิ่งบ่างอย่างน่ากลัว เกิดขึ้นกับตัวผม

ในขณะที่ผมกำลังตกใจ และไม่สามารถขยับเขยื้อนจากตรงนั้น นานถึง 20 – 30 นาที ผมคิดว่าตอนนั้น ตัวผมก็สั่นไปหมดด้วยนะ

แต่ผมก็ไม่ได้ไปโรงพยาบาล ถ้าผมไปโรงพยาบาล เขาต้องบอกให้ผมอยู่นิ่งๆ ห้ามเคลื่อนไหว หรืออาจจะต้องนอนพักรักษาตัวในโรงพยาบาล ซึ่งจะทำให้ผมไม่ สามารถถ่ายทำละครต่อไปได้ หรือหากว่าผมไม่เป็นอะไรมาก ผมอาจะต้องใส่เผือกใน ขณะที่ถ่ายทำ แต่ผมคิดว่า ผมคงไม่สามารถทุ่มเทกับการถ่ายทำสภาพแบบนั้นได้แน่ๆ และคิดว่ามันน่าจะดีที่สุดถ้าไม่ทราบอาการบาดเจ็บของตัวเองเลย ผมต้องทานยาระงับปวดฉีดยาเข้าเส้น พันแผลด้วยผ้าพันแผลหนาถึง 4 ชั้น และสามารถถ่ายทำต่อได้อีก 10วัน ในสภาพนั้น

เขายังบอกอีกด้วยว่าเขาต้องฉีดยาเข้าเส้นเลือดด้วยตัวเอง หลังจากที่ใช้เข็มฉีดยา เจาะแขนตัวเองเพื่อหาเส้นเลือดหลายครั้งมาก เมื่อพูดถึงเรื่องความเจ็บปวดบ่อบเข้า เบ ยง จุน ก็หันกลับมามองพวกเราด้วยใบหน้าเหยเก (ฮ่า....ฮ่า)

แน่นอนครับ ภาพของกษัตริย์ยังติดอยู่ในใจผม แต่มันคงจะไม่ดีแน่ถ้าผมยังจะ ดำเนินชีวิตโดยที่ยังติด อยู่กับภาพของกษัตริย์ (หัวเราะ) ดังนั้นผมจึงพยายามลบความรู้สึกเหล่านั้นออกไป แต่ก็คงเหมือนกับ ทัมต๊อกนั่นแหล่ะ ผมจำเป็นต้องอยู่อย่างซื่อสัตย์และรับผิดชอบ กระทำแต่สิ่งที่ดีงาม มีความกรุณาและนึกถึงใจผู้อื่น นี้คือ โปรเจ็ค ผมจะต้องจดจำเก็บไว้ในหัวใจแม้กระทั่งในตอนนี้ เขาตอบด้วยน้ำเสียงอ่อนโยน

ในประวัติศาสตร์มีการจารึกภาพ กษัตริย์ ทัมต๊อกว่าเป็นนักรบที่ดุร้าย ในยุคที่รุ่งเรืองในอาณาจักร โคคุเรียว แต่ในละครที่เขานำแสดง เขากลับแสดงให้เห็น ถึงภาพขอกษัตรีย์ที่รักประชาชน บางทีอาจเป็นเพราะ เบยงจุน มีลักษณะของความ สง่างาม และเห็นอกเห็นใจผู้อื่น มาแต่เดิม จึงทำให้เขาสามารถแสดงบทกระษัตริย์ให้เห็น ถึงความรักอย่างลึกซึ่ง และความแข็งแกร่งที่ไม่มีวันสั่นคลอนได้เป็นอย่างดี

เป็นความจริงหรือไม่ที่คุณชอบไวน์แดงมาก

เมื่อก่อนนิยมชอบดื่มไวน์มาก แต่หลังๆมานี่ ผมเริ่มมีความคิดที่ว่า ผลอยากจะ ผลิตไวน์เป็นของตนเองด้วยนะ การถ่ายภาพก็เป็นสิ่งนิยมสนใจมานานมากแล้ว และเมื่อเร็วนี้ ผมก็มีความคิดว่าผมไม่ได้แค่อยากถ่ายรูปเท่านั้น ผมยังอยากทำธุรกิจเกี่ยวกับ รูปภาพอีกด้วยเช่น ผมอยากจะระบายสีภาพถ่ายอีกด้วย

แต่ผมเชื่อว่า ไม่ว่าเป็นเรื่องงานหรือเรื่องเล่น วิธีที่ดีที่สุดในการดำเนินชีวิต คือใส่พลังงานเต็มที่ในทุกวินาที ที่จริงแล้วในการสัมภาษณ์ก่อนหน้านี้ ผมถูกถามว่า ผมจะเป็นอย่างไรในอีก 10 ปี ข้างหน้า แต่ว่าหลังจากที่ได้รับบาดเจ็บ และ ไม่รู้ว่าผมยังสามารถถ่ายทำต่อไปอีกหรือไม่ ในวันพรุ่งนี้

-'Water Drops of the Gods' copyright license agreement allows for drama production and derivative works

Keyeast Co., Ltd. (CEO: Pyo Jong Rok) announced on August 28, 2008 that it has entered into an official copyright license agreement with Kodansha Inc. for the production of a Korean language drama based on the comic book 'Water Drops of the Gods.'

Over 2,200,000 copies of 'Water Drops of the Gods' have been sold in Japan and over 2,000,000 copies have been sold in Korea. This comic book has sparked interest in wine worldwide. Many domestic and foreign companies have expressed interest in the copyright of this global bestseller.

The license agreement allows Keyeast Co., Ltd. to produce a Korean language drama based on the 'Water Drops of the Gods' comic and it also grants Keyeast Co., Ltd. the right to create and carry out business related to derivative works.

A member of Keyeast Co., Ltd. said that 'we are happy that we have been able to sign a contract regarding a large product which has captured so much attention from all of Asia,' and that 'we will do everything we can to make sure that the drama, which will be based on the original work that proved to be a moving comic for many readers, becomes a stimulating force in the domestic entertainment industry.'
