When going up to second floor of her house, she quickly goes up the stairs without stopping. "Is she really 84 years old?" i was really astonished.She is really a "super-granny."
I was born in Karafuto (note: Sakhalin, island in Russia). When I was little I used to ice skate on rice field.At this age, my hobby is going to public skating rink to skate."I got worried and asked, "isn’t it dangerous at your age? you may fall down."I got a "counterattack" from Mikami."I get tense when I skate, so I never fall down. When rink is crowded people come bumping into you, so I only go when there are less people."
Living lively is a good thing, but everyone around her are worried.In winter, she would go up the roof of the house and to get the snow off."Recently winters are warmer, it is not challenging and it is boring.Still, my neighbors tell me to stop, stop all the time." She grins at me.
She uses eyeglasses but her eye sight is very good, and she has good hands from youth."I can easily put thread through eye of a needle. I am surprised with it myself."My motive for living now is to create battledores and bags.
I started creating battledores about 35 years ago. I peaked into a class but I learned most by myself.
"Yon-sama (Hallyu star, Bae Yong Joon) is great. I made two pieces of this battledores, I sent one to Yon-sama in Korea. I send it to the address noted for fan letters. When I saw Yon-sama’s office on TV, I found the battledore diplayed there."She looked very happy.
Mikami's wish; I hope these days continue for long time."When I look at my mother, I think that I could live as old as her. So, I think there are more things that I can do for myself." says Mikami’s eldest daughter, Etsuko Tateyama(51).
